We drove up to Waimea Canyon called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" by Mark Twain. Here's a view from the south. We drove up to the north part of the canyon and tried to hike to the waterfall in the distance. While hiking, it began to rain. We had no umbrella (and I had no jacket) and we ultimately got lost for a while.
A view over-looking the town of Waimea from the road going up to Waimea Canyon.
The Waimea Canyon road ends at an altitude of 4000 ft. This is the Kalalau Lookout which overlooks the western side of Kauai and the spectacular Na Pali Coast. Unfortunately all we saw was this fog. Google Kalalau Lookout to see what we missed.
The plane! The plane!
This is the Wailua Falls which drop 80 feet into the pool below. They were used in the opening scene of Fantasy Island.
We spent a couple of days on the north shore. A fan of lighthouses, Claudia decided to visit the Kilauea Lighthouse.
The Kilauea Lighthouse is the northernmost point of the main Hawaiian Islands. It's located on a narrow peninsula that juts northwards.
