Extreme modernity versus the old world.

Once the jeeps were ready (they had to let air out of the tires for traction) we set off for an Indiana Jones-like off roading experience.
Since the sand was so fine, the jeeps would slide laterally down the sides of the sand dunes. The driver, who is licensed to drive in the desert, was skilled in keeping the jeep from turning over.
A few jeeps, however, got stuck in the sand and had to be towed out by other jeeps. Lesson learned: Don't travel alone in the desert.
We climbed up on a dune -- hard to do since we were sinking in the sand -- and watched the sun set.
